Metrics history and chart ranges
The CloudStats app can show recent host metrics as charts.

Summary#
The CloudStats app can show recent host metrics as charts. You choose how far back a chart displays. That choice is a display range for the view in front of you. It is not a statement of how long CloudStats stores every sample, and this page does not publish a retention period.
The Linux agent collects a larger catalog than any one screen may chart. See Current metrics catalog.
Prerequisites#
- A CloudStats account
- At least one Linux server with the agent installed and reporting. See Install the Linux agent
- Familiarity with the metric names and units in the current metrics catalog
View metric history#
In the CloudStats app, open a server and use the chart range control to choose how far back that chart should display.
Treat the ranges the app offers as display options for the chart, not as a promise of how long raw samples or rollups are stored. If a range is longer than the points available for that series, the chart can look empty or shorter than the range you selected.
Over longer ranges, CloudStats may show rolled-up points rather than every raw sample.
Expected behavior#
- Latest values on a server page come from the last accepted metric batch. That is not the same signal as “the agent contacted CloudStats in the last 60 seconds.” See Service, status, and logs.
- History is stored per metric name plus labels (for example, each mountpoint or network interface).
- The website may not give every catalog metric its own chart. A missing widget does not mean the agent omitted that metric. Confirm against the catalog and Troubleshooting.
- If you delete a server in CloudStats and later install again, CloudStats creates a new server. History from the deleted server is not attached to the new one. See Reinstall and server identity.
- Uninstalling the agent on the host does not by itself delete that server’s metric history in your CloudStats account. See Uninstall the agent.
Troubleshooting and limitations#
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| Empty CPU or rate chart right after install | CPU percents and byte-per-second rates are omitted on the first sample. Wait at least two collect intervals (about 20 seconds at the default 10-second interval). |
| Empty chart for a catalog metric | The website may not chart that name even when the agent sends it. |
| Server online, chart looks stale | Latest charts show the last accepted batch. A local queue on the host can drain oldest-first after an outage. |
| Chart range looks longer than the data shown | The range is a display window. This page does not claim that every range is fully populated for every metric. |
| Old server missing after a delete and reinstall | Expected. The new server does not inherit the old server’s history in the server list. |
A chart range is not a billing or storage contract.
